Blunkett: We must rebuild Labour Party

-

LABOUR moderates must rebuild the party ‘from the ground up’ in last week’s ‘dismal’ election results, David Blunkett warned yesterday.

The former Labour home secretary urged moderates to start working on a ‘genuine alternative’ to Jeremy Corbyn’s hard-Left vision.

Lord Blunkett said it was ‘increasingly clear that Jeremy’s leadership is going nowhere’.

He added: ‘ It’s clear from the local elections that Corbynism is doomed to failure. Rebuilding a new, positive Labour is the only way forward.’ Lord Blunkett also hit out at Mr Corbyn’s failure to tackle the party’s anti-Semitism crisis.

Writing in The Mail on Sunday, he warned that voters in Barnet in North London – a top Labour target which the party failed to take last week – had ‘turned away from Labour in droves because of the anti-Semitism furore’.

Outside London, he said the Labour leadership had little to offer except ‘ideas that were promoted and rejected in the 1970s and 1980s’.
