THIS fairytale fantasy, directed by Rob Reiner, is full of warmth and wonder. Cary Elwes is the poor farmhand who embarks on a quest to free fair Buttercup (Robin Wright) from the clutches of Chris Sarandon’s evil Prince Humperdinc­k. Fabulously tongue-in-cheek.

STEVE McQUEEN (pictured) gives one of the most memorable performanc­es of his career in the astonishin­g semifictio­nal account of Henri Charriere’s time in the hellish penal system in French Guiana in the Thirties. But Dustin Hoffman matches him step for step as his fellow inmate Louis Dega.
