RESEARCHERS are using internet searches to predict outbreaks of sexually transmitted diseases. In one U.S. study, to be published in Epidemiology, data on phrases tapped into computers was compiled alongside actual rates of infections. From this, they predicted the number of new cases with 90 per cent accuracy.
