Zinc pyrithione: This antifungal compound removes the micro-organisms that can cause a build-up of dandruff. It’s also used in paint to prevent mould and mildew. Guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride: Derived from a substance in cluster beans, this acts as a conditioner. Methylisothiazolinone: Used in many cosmetics, this is a preservative with antimicrobial properties. In high doses, it can cause skin irritation. Sodium laureth sulfate: This detergent cleans the hair, as well as making the shampoo foam when mixed with water. Magnesium carbonate hydroxide: This is a form of chalk used by rock climbers and weightlifters for grip. In shampoo, this chalk is mixed with water and used to make the zinc pyrithione stick more effectively to your scalp to remove dirt.
