QUESTION

-

Was any British monarch known to be a good joke-teller?

Further to the earlier answer, Lord Granville, who was twice Foreign Secretary, 1870-74 and 1880-85, wasn’t impressed with the Royal Family’s sense of humour: ‘One doesn’t waste one’s best jokes on the Royal Family. One gets a bigger laugh pretending to trap one’s hand in a door.’

Graham Healey, Sheffield.
