Labour sack frontbencher over ‘bullying’
ONE of Jeremy Corbyn’s most senior frontbenchers was sacked from Labour’s shadow Cabinet last night after an investigation into bullying.
Debbie Abrahams was removed as shadow work and pensions secretary after complaints about her behaviour.
The 57-year-old said: ‘I strongly refute the allegations of bullying made against me. I believe the investigation was not thorough, fair or independent.
‘I will continue to represent the people of Oldham East and Saddleworth, and to hold this Government to account, from the back benches.’ Labour said in March that Miss Abrahams had ‘stood aside from her frontbench role while the Labour Party investigates an employment issue’.
An investigation is believed to have upheld the complaints against her and found she had engaged in a pattern of bullying behaviour towards staff.
The party said Miss Abrahams had been referred to its disputes committee.
