Energy giants probed
the deal to merge Npower and sse’s retail operations has been referred for a full investigation by the competition watchdog.
the Competition And Markets Authority (CMA) said the tie-up between the power giants would face a so- called stage two indepth inquiry after its initial probe found it could reduce competition, potentially leading to higher prices for customers.
A decision will be made by CMA panel members, with a deadline for their final report of October 22.
the energy giants announced in November that their household energy supply and services businesses would join forces, reducing the country’s Big six energy suppliers to five.
