Gel has calmed Carol’s tummy troubles
CAROL Williams has suffered upper gastrointestinal discomfort since her teens. But it was in her fifties that symptoms really took hold. ‘Each time the symptoms flared up, I was blown out and in so much pain,’ says the 74-year-old grandmother from Maltby, who also has arthritis. ‘I was desperate to find a remedy. I read about silicic acid in a newspaper and checked with my doctor that it wouldn’t interact with other medications I take, or the blood tests I need.’ Carol was given the go-ahead and took the recommended dose of one tablespoon, tablespoon three times a day, day which helped her to enjoy a holiday in Spain. ‘Since then, I have had three years of relief from daily misery. ‘It’s absolutely incredible. At the moment I am taking a maintenance dose of just one tablespoonful a day. But if I feel anything building up, I’ll go back to three times a day. ‘I’m getting less pain and flatulence and my whole digestive system feels much more comfortable.’ Previously, Carol was reluctant to commit to social engagements in case symptoms flared up when she wasn’t near a familiar bathroom. bathroom ‘It’s so nice now to be in control of my symptoms. My husband used to have to do all the shopping, but now we can take the wheelchair to shop together. Now we can enjoy family get-togethers, too. ‘I am much more sociable and we often go to our local pub on a Friday night, enjoy a meal out or meet with friends.’ Silicic acid, which has recently been developed for daily use in a gel form, can be purchased from Tesco and Holland & Barrett.
