HOW wonderful to see the Sainsbury’s delivery boys on electric bikes (Mail).

As a teenager, I had a Saturday job at a grocer’s where I would weigh out sugar, rice, dog biscuits and cheese to be sold in paper bags.

Orders in cardboard boxes were delivered by bicycle. I didn’t think we would go back to those times! In this age of excess plastic packaging and waste, there were lessons to be learnt from back then.

If I were to attempt to fill the bags, it would add up to just under half a ton of the unwanted clothes they request. When will the charities realise they are wasting time and money, and contributing to pollution, by putting these unwanted bags through our letterboxes? ROGER I. SHENTON, Huntington, Cambs.
