Morrisons’ £7 wedding cake copy
A TIE-UP with convenience chain McColl’s has boosted sales at Big Four grocer Morrisons as it faces up to the challenge of the AsdaSainsbury’s merger.
The agreement to supply McColl’s with fresh, frozen and tinned food gave a lift to grocery sales in the 13 weeks to May 6. Sales excluding fuel were up 3.6pc, with retail and wholesale both contributing a 1.8pc boost.
And in a bid to get a kick from the royal wedding next week, it has just launched a £7 version ( pictured) of the lemon and elderflower cake being made for Harry and Meghan’s big day.
The real wedding cake will be made by pastry chef Claire Ptak, owner of London’s Violet Cakes.
