Saints alive, Charlie’s on to Another winner!

Forty-eight hours after he was part of the Southampto­n team who beat Swansea to virtually assure Premier League survival, striker Charlie Austin was on to another winner at Chester.

in a battle of the footballer­s, Another Batt, carrying the colours of Austin’s excel racing Club, held off Dragon’s tail, owned by Michael owen and trained by tom Dascombe, by a neck in the Abbey Logistics handicap. Another Batt could now have a shot at royal Ascot with trainer george Scott, considerin­g the Britannia handicap. Scott said: ‘Charlie was on the phone before the horse had crossed the line. he has one more match this season for Southampto­n and then he can relax for a while and enjoy his horses.’

Scott will send his 2,000 guineas seventh James garfield sprinting in the Commonweal­th Cup at royal Ascot. he said: ‘ only courage dragged him to the line in the guineas. he’s not a group one winner at a mile, but could be at six furlongs.’

Meanwhile, Aidan o’Brien’s rostropovi­ch is 20-1 for the investec Derby after quickening smartly to land the homeserve Dee Stakes by an easy three-and-three-quarter lengths from My Lord And Master.

the son of Frankel has the French Derby as a feasible option too.
