THEY LOOKED IN LOVE, JOKES MOURINHO
JOSE MOURINHO shrugged off Paul Pogba’s bust-up with Mark Noble at the London Stadium last night as the Manchester United boss joked the two midfielders ‘looked in love’. West Ham captain Noble was lucky to be shown no more than a yellow card as he clawed at Pogba’s face following a foul by the £89million midfielder in the 87th minute. It was a rare flash of excitement in an uninspiring, end-of-season stalemate — although Mourinho surprisingly said the 0-0 draw pleased him because it confirmed United will finish second. ‘I was watching the images and Paul and Noble looked in love,’ said Mourinho. ‘Hugs and kisses and changing shirts at full time. It was good. It was competitive. ‘We needed a point to finish second, they didn’t need anything because they did the job last match at Leicester but they played to win. The game was competitive. The best way to fight for the point was to try to win the match and be safe, which was what we tried. But when the game goes to 70, 75 minutes you don’t win, you don’t lose, you do the job. You get the point. You finish second. When it is not possible to be champions, second position is the best available which was what we got.’
Sportsmail’s Jamie Redknapp, speaking on Sky, did not hold back when discussing United’s style of play: ‘In terms of finishing second and looking at the money they’ve spent it’s hard to watch at the moment.’
