BIG SPLASH – OR A DAMP SQUIB?

-

Floating pool fountain (£24.99, amazon.co.uk) EVERY garden needs a water feature — and having no pond, or even space to put one, need not be a hindrance any longer.

This hilarious floating fountain sits in your paddling pool, and uses a solar panel the size of an iPad to produce a jet of squirting water nearly a foot high, albeit with a loud churning noise from the internal motor.

There’s no charging time, it just starts. As long as the sun shines, that is — because comically, as soon as it goes behind a cloud, the fountain slows to a pathetic dribble before subsiding altogether. What a disappointment!

You also have to connect the solar panel to the fountain via a rather unattractive thick black wire, which ruins the look a bit.

VERDICT: Inconsistent — still, it’s a fun party trick for a truly cloudless sunny day.
