WIRE ROLL WITH PUNCHES

-

ONE red card, three yellows, bites, fights and dissent marred Toronto Wolfpack’s 66-10 loss to Warrington. In a first half full of controversy, Toronto’s Jacob Emmitt alleged he was bitten and Liam Kay was sin-binned for a dangerous tackle. And with two minutes until halftime Andrew Dixon was sent off for punching, and the Wire scored from the resulting penalty via Josh Charnley to take a 12-10 lead at the break. Although leading narrowly at the interval, Warrington scored 54 second-half points, including a Tom Lineham hat-trick of tries, as Toronto’s Josh McCrone and Darcy Lussick were shown yellow cards for arguing with referee Ben Thaler. Toronto coach Paul Rowley said: ‘I thought some decisions were harsh, but we were our own worst enemies.’ ‘It was very pleasing to get the result, but it was like watching the Lord of the Rings,’ said Wire boss Steve Price. ‘It felt like it was going on for ever.’ HULL KR’S Danny Tickle was sent off as last year’s runners-up WIGAN won 28-10 to set up a quarter-final trip to Warrington. QUARTER FINAL DRAW: Huddersfield v Catalan, Leeds v Leigh, St Helens v Hull FC, Warrington v Wigan. Ties to be played May 31-June 3.
