Show me the money, Poch tells Levy
IT’S WORLD CUP SQUAD WEEK AND IT’S GOOD NEWS, GARETH
MAURICIO POCHETTINO has indicated that his future at Tottenham rests on how much money the club are willing to spend this summer. After his team’s 5-4 win over Leicester, the Argentine appeared to place significant doubt on his position ahead of next season. Tottenham have once again qualified for the Champions League by finishing third, but Pochettino is desperate to take his team to the next level after another season without winning a trophy. He will now hold talks with chairman Daniel Levy, where their plans for summer investment on players will be a key topic of debate. ‘Today 100 per cent (I will be manager) but tomorrow it can change,’ said Pochettino, who challenged Levy to loosen the purse strings. ‘It is not in my hands, it depends on my boss. Maybe I am talking too much, maybe I should breathe. But don’t take this in a negative way, this always happens at the end of the season, the manager speaks to the owners thinking how to improve. ‘We need to talk a lot between us and the club. That’s a bit up to Daniel and the club. ‘After four years we need to assess that period and try to win big trophies. ‘We cannot think we are the cleverest people in the world winning trophies on small money. We need to think the reality is different. ‘I think Daniel is going to listen. In this situation you need to be brave and take risks. Until today it was so difficult to talk about the future. Now we need to decide the way to operate.’ Meanwhile, Leicester boss Claude Puel played down the idea that yesterday was his final game for the club. ‘We need stability and I will try to make this work,’ said the Frenchman. ‘Speculation is not my area.’
