Davies fear over stamp

- MIKE WHALLEY

TOM DAVIES has apologised for the stamp that could rule him out of Coventry’s biggest game of the season.

The centre back must wait to discover whether the FA take retrospective action after he was caught on camera standing on Notts County captain Richard Duffy. Referee Gavin Ward missed the flashpoint in the 21st minute of a stormy League Two semi-final first leg, but Davies could yet miss Friday’s return.

Duffy said: ‘I felt some studs on me but I spoke to him after and he apologised and said he didn’t mean it. I’ll take his word for it. I wouldn’t be calling for him to be banned. If the TV shows there was intent, that’s for the people upstairs to deal with.’

Marc McNulty’s penalty — controversially awarded after Matt Tootle tackled Tom Bayliss — gave Coventry a late equaliser after Jonathan Forte’s sublime dragged back-heel put the visitors in front.
