Wristband to end finger-prick tests

-

A wRISTbAND that analyses sweat could replace finger-prick tests for people with diabetes.

The device has sensors that measure blood sugar levels from sweat on the skin’s surface. It then displays the levels on its screen. Millions of people with type 2 diabetes rely on finger-prick tests to measure blood sugar less regularly.

If left uncontrolled, high blood sugar can damage blood vessels and nerves, which can lead to complications such as loss of sight.

A recent study in the journal Electrophoresis, showed the wristband is highly accurate and could replace more invasive methods, said the researchers from the Polytechnic of Milan in Italy.
