‘I just got sicker, faster,’ said Miss Colbert, from Gatley, Greater Manchester. ‘Some days I can hardly leave the bathroom, let alone the house.

‘The antibiotics helped relieve the pain, but now it is much worse. I can’t sleep, I can’t socialise. It’s a difficult thing to explain to someone who has not been through it.’
