New Iran charge for jailed Briton
THE British mother jailed in Iran on spy charges faces a fresh allegation, her husband fears. Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, pictured, who was arrested in 2016 while on holiday with her baby daughter Gabriella, could be back in court within days on a charge of spreading propaganda against the regime, Richard Ratcliffe said. He believes the 39-year-old, serving a five-year sentence for allegedly plotting to overthrow the Tehran government, is being used as a ‘bargaining chip’ as Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson prepares to meet his Iranian counterpart in Brussels for talks on the future of the Iran nuclear deal.
Mr Ratcliffe, of West Hampstead, northwest London, says his wife, who denies the charges, told him the latest in a phone call on Monday. He urged Mr Johnson to raise the issue in Brussels, adding: ‘I have no clue why they have started all this nonsense again. They know Boris is coming.’
