THE DAMBUSTERS RAID MINUTE BY MINUTE
The final part of our gripping series
ON THE night of May 16, 1943, aircrews from the Royal Air Force 617 Squadron set off for the Ruhr Valley on Operation Chastise, equipped with Barnes Wallis’s ‘bouncing bombs’. Gerry Northam presents REEL HISTORIES — DAM BUSTERS (RADIO 4 EXTRA, 1.30PM, 8.30PM), looking at film footage and considering the significance of the Dam Busters to the outcome of World War II.
AN EXOTIC dancer arrives on the supposedly God-fearing streets of Leith. Inspector McLevy and his fellow officers are put on alert, but they have to contend with the local madam, Jean Brash. The dancer is part of Jean’s plans to repay old debts. Brian Cox and Siobhan Redmond star in McLEVY: THE SEVENTH VEIL (RADIO 4, 2.15PM), a drama based on the real-life Victorian detective.
THE Irish singersongwriter Seamus Fogarty
(pictured) is on THE FOLK SHOW WITH MARK RADCLIFFE (RADIO 2, 8PM) for a live session of
songs from his latest album, The Curious Hand, which includes an account of ghostly goings-on on the road from Carlow Town to Dublin.
THE FULL WORKS CONCERT (CLASSIC FM,
8PM) comes live from Saffron Hall in Saffron Walden, where musicians who have been supported by the Young Classical Artists Trust will be performing works by Mozart, Haydn and Brahms and more.
