Historians are boycotting the BBC’s royal Wedding coverage after radio 2 declined to pay contributors’ travel expenses, let alone a fee, for three hours of their expertise on Chris Evans’s special saturday morning show.
the BBC told writers ‘exposure’ would be reward in itself.
‘i’ve just had a plumber here for a half-hour. Cost me £114. Do you think i could have asked him to do it in exchange for cups of tea?’ asks Hallie rubenhold, whose book on 18th- century courtesans inspired the itV drama Harlots.
‘in all the years i’ve been doing this, i’ve never got a paid job off the back of “exposure”.’
While wedding plans are under way for Chloe Madeley and rugby star James haskell, it doesn’t seem her parents, TV’s Richard and Judy, will be grandparents any time soon. ‘The wedding will be in 2020 but, oh my God, we’re not going to do a Meghan Markle and aim to have a baby straightaway in the first year,’ says Chloe, 30, speaking at a Mayfair champagne reception. And her future husband, tells me: ‘Oooh no! Babies? i’d rather have a Ferrari.’ Who says romance is dead?
