Jaguar driver was texting as he mowed down pedestrian

-

A MOTORIST previously sacked for using a mobile phone at the wheel is facing jail for knocking down and killing a pedestrian moments after sending a text.

Steven Russell, 42, was distracted by his phone when he ploughed his Jaguar into father-of-five Robert Morris, 57, who was crossing the road, Warwick Crown Court heard.

Mr Morris, of Coventry, was thrown into the air and died three days later. Deleted messages on

Russell’s phone showed it ‘had been active around the time of the accident’ in December 2016.

Russell, who months earlier had lost his job as a lorry driver for filming a crash on his phone, denied causing death by dangerous driving but was found guilty. He will be sentenced later and was warned he would be facing a jail term.

Russell also admitted harassing his daughter’s partner with phone calls, texts and by turning up at his home.
