PUTTING THE GREAT BACK IN BRITAIN

-

Our green and pleasant land it seems Is going to the dogs, From ASBOs to the ‘care’ system And even TV progs. Society has gone crazy And, thanks to Dr Spock, Discipline’s thrown in the air And landed in dry dock! If you are sick in England (And lucky to afford) Take your troubles elsewhere And book your ‘op’ abroad! Maggots from our wheelie bins — Too many now to gauge, Aren’t waiting for collection But for pestilence and plague! Alcopops and smoking — An under-age pursuit Has allowed a violent culture To settle and take root. Hoodies by the dozen Line each darkened lane, We’d love to send them packing But they’ve cancelled the last train. Now balance this with heroes Of the unsung kind Who, when we need them urgently We always seem to find. And in honour of those brave ones Who on foreign lands were slain, Let’s put faith back in Britain And the ‘Great’ back in its name. Sheila Webb, Chesham, Bucks.
