Shirley: Strictly should star a same-sex couple

- By Susie Coen TV and Radio Reporter

STRICTLY Come Dancing’s head judge, Shirley Ballas, says she would like nothing more than for a same-sex couple to be included in the competition.

The 57- year- old added she ‘couldn’t think of anything more exciting’ than seeing two men or two women compete together.

The ballroom expert pointed out that a male pair had just made the final of the Italian version of Strictly.

Asked about the possibility of that happening in the UK, Mrs Ballas told ITV’s good Morning Britain: ‘I think things are chang- ing. I couldn’t think of anything more exciting so yes, I’m for it.’

fellow Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood has previously said the BBC1 show should introduce same-sex couples.

Last year, he said: ‘In the world of competitions, there are samesex couples that do it [just] as well so there is no reason that can’t happen.’

But the BBC has previously said it has ‘no plans’ to include samesex couples in the hit show.
