Moore lands West Brom job

- LAURIE WHITWELL

DARREN MOORE has won the battle to be named West Brom manager,

Sportsmail can reveal. The 44-year-old saw off competition from Brentford boss Dean Smith, who had been seen as the front-runner. Moore guided West Brom to three wins and two draws in six Premier League matches as caretaker, staving off relegation until the last week of the season and restoring pride at the club. The former defender gained the backing of the West Brom squad to get the job permanently and the club’s board have listened to their calls. Chief executive Mark Jenkins and technical consultant Giuliano Terraneo flew to China this week to discuss options with West Brom owner Guochuan Lai. Talks are ongoing about the terms of Moore’s contract. Smith was seen as the likeliest candidate for his experience of managing in the Championship and the attractive football played by his Walsall and Brentford sides. Leicester assistant Michael Appleton was also in the running. PRINTED AND DISTRIBUTED BY PRESSREADER PressReader.com +1 604 278 4604 . ORIGINAL COPY . ORIGINAL COPY . ORIGINAL COPY .
