Red white and true, devotees get prime spots

‘We’re not fanatics’

united by a fierce royal fervour, well-wishers have arrived in Windsor from all corners of the globe.

unperturbe­d by the prospect of chilly nights under the stars, they have camped along the streets and in parkland around Windsor Castle.

By yesterday morning, the most hardcore had staked claims to prime viewing spots, with some having already slept outdoors.

You certainly couldn’t miss Alex Sirek and his wife Melissa, both 49, who were having a recce of the Long Walk through Windsor Great Park after flying 4,300 miles from Orlando, Florida.

She wore Mickey Mouse ears and a t-shirt with the union and uS flags on it, while he opted for Stars and Stripes trousers and stetson, and a union Flag t-shirt.

the couple are staying in a B&B, but planned to get up at 3.30am this morning to secure a place by the Long Walk, which forms part of the wedding route.

Mrs Sirek said: ‘it’s a fairytale. this is the first royal event i’ve been to. i’ve seen lots on tV, but i wanted to experience the crowds, atmosphere, the horses, the pomp and ceremony.’

On bunting- strewn Windsor High Street, Alison Hamilton, 44, and her friend donna Pilgrim, 47, set up their camping chairs at 8.30am yesterday after travelling from Anglesey, north Wales, and Walton- on-thames, Surrey, respective­ly. ‘You can feel the electricit­y,’ said Mrs Hamilton, wrapped Hamilton said: in a union ‘We’ll sleep Flag. in Mrs our chairs or on the pavement on roll-up mattresses. it’ll be cold but we wouldn’t miss this for the world. We can have a fish and chip supper from across the road, so we’ll be fine.’

For security reasons, well-wishers were warned not to bring tents, forcing those sleeping outside to safeguard their viewing positions to brave the elements.

But that didn’t deter Shirley Messinger. By 3pm on thursday, the 71-year-old was already settled in for the long haul by the Long Walk with friends Margaret tinsley, 76, from Gillingham, dorset, and eunice Hartstone, 74, from Lymington, Hampshire. the retired PA, said: ‘We are royalists, but not fanatics.’

Australian Victoria McRae was hoping to get Harry to marry her instead. Miss McRae, from Sydney, has asked the prince to be her husband three times, and stole a kiss from him when he visited her hometown in 2015. dressed in a wedding gown and tiara yesterday, she showed off a placard with photos of their kiss and the words, ‘it’s not too late’.
