Here I am at last, Mum! ... Elephant born three months late

-

THIS little chap has astonished zookeepers by being born almost three months late.

The unnamed male Asian elephant calf – the latest addition to Chester Zoo – arrived after a 25-month gestation.

Keepers had feared the worst after his mother, 35-year-old Thi, failed to give birth soon after her due date, worrying that the pregnancy had failed.

The usual gestation is 18 to 22 months, and the zoo believes this may be a record pregnancy for an Asian elephant.
