Mandelson: Now I might get married
LORD Mandelson says he is considering proposing to his long-term partner after being inspired by Harry and Meghan’s wedding.
Speaking on ITV’s Peston on Sunday, the 64-year-old Labour peer said: ‘People all over the country are going to feel inspired – they’re all going to want to run and get married like Harry and Meghan.
‘Even I am wondering now whether I should finally tie the knot with my partner after 20 years of living together.’ He has previously shrugged off speculation about marrying his Brazilian boyfriend Reinaldo Avila da Silva, who is 20 years his junior. But after being urged on by Culture Secretary Matt Hancock on air yesterday, he said: ‘I’m now thinking about, we need a discussion about this.’
He later said he had ‘almost gone further’ than he should have and it was not a ‘unilateral decision’.
