Luton is named worst airport for flight delays
THE worst major British airports for flight punctuality have been revealed, with passengers suffering the longest delays at Luton.
Departures from the airport were an average of 20 minutes late in 2017, according to Civil Aviation Authority data. And Gatwick recorded the second worst punctuality.
The rankings took into account every scheduled and charter flight from 25 of Britain’s major airports. Cancelled flights were not included.
Heathrow was found to have the best performance, with aircraft there typically taking off 11 minutes late. A Luton spokesman said punctuality was influenced by ‘many factors’ such as air traffic control strikes, late arriving aircraft, bad weather and congested airspace.
Gatwick said it was doing ‘everything within its power’ to improve the proportion of flights departing on time.
