NHS home care drive ‘has failed’

AN NHS drive to treat patients at home rather than in hospital has failed, a report warns. The policy led to a cut in hospital beds but has ‘fallen flat’, according to NHS Providers which represents hospitals and community health services.

Chief executive Chris Hopson said community services meant to look after patients at home had become ‘underfunded and short-staffed’ and ‘patients are paying the price’.
