Can you really go on a cruise AND lose weight?

There are many reasons why people holiday on a cruise. The endless bars, restaurant­s and entertainm­ent, the thrill of being on the open water, the glamour and exotic locations.

Whatever the reason, until recently, I doubted anyone would ever book a cruise with weight loss in mind. After all, for many, the whole appeal of a cruise is the food — more buffets than you can shake a stick at, some of them open 24 hours, all included in the price of your ticket. It’s little wonder that the average cruiser goes home 10 lb heavier after a seven-night holiday.

So the idea of Weight Watchers organising cruises for its members seems a bit of a head- scratcher. Surely that’s like handing out cream cakes at the weekly meeting? Not to
