Generation rent
PEOPLE are in desperate need of decent, affordable, rented properties, but politicians only want to increase home ownership.
This does not help those on low incomes who will never be in a position to afford a mortgage.
The long waiting lists for social housing surely shows the size of the problem.
The reduction in the availability of social housing has resulted in families having to pay higher rents for private properties and to claim benefit subsidies, but the government has made a commitment to reducing this cost.
Encouraging people to take out large mortgages is extremely risky. Interest rates are at a record longterm low, so the only movement in the future is upwards.
