JOHNSTON’S DEE HEADS TO DERBY

- MARCUS TOWNEND

Trainer Mark Johnston looks like being represented in the investec Derby at epsom a week on Saturday by Chester Vase runner-up Dee ex Bee rather than his Dante Stakes runner-up Mildenberger. Both colts run in the colours of Sheik Mohammed’s son Sheik Hamdan but, while Dee ex Bee is entered for epsom, Mildenberger would need supplementing. The trainer said: ‘Dee ex Bee is entered and that very much swings it his way. i’d say at the moment it is better than 50-50 he will turn up at epsom.’ Johnston runs his 2,000 Guineas fourth elarqam in Saturday’s irish equivalent at the Curragh. aidan O’Brien’s irish 2,000 Guineas team is led by Gustav Klimt, who was sixth in the 2,000 Guineas at newmarket, and US navy Flag, the dual Group One-winning two-yearold who was fifth in the French 2,000 Guineas after slipping badly mid-race.
