How Queen and Philip still host their own BBQs

GIVEN their age, you might expect the Queen and Prince Philip to be waited on hand and foot. But, in fact, the couple still enjoy doing the cooking when guests come to stay, it has been revealed.

The Duke of Edinburgh, 96, has even designed his own barbecue at the couple’s Scottish summer residence of Balmoral.

And according to housekeeper Sheena Stewart, the Queen, 92, helps to host by laying the table and preparing the salad.

The revelation is made during the second episode of a special three-part series of BBC1’s Countryfile. The show was given access to the Queen’s estates and will celebrate the 65th anniversary of her coronation and 30 years since the programme’s first broadcast.

Miss Stewart said: ‘The Duke, he cooks, the Queen sets up the table. There are no staff that come out to serve.’ The first episode of Countryfile’s Queen And Country will air on Sunday.
