Asda’s World Cup own goal

-

A SUPERMARKET in Wales has taken England football merchandise off the shelves after customers complained.

The Asda in Caernarfon had a range of £1 hats and flags bearing the St George’s Cross ahead of next month’s World Cup – but withdrew them following a backlash from Welsh shoppers.

Asda claimed the goods had been sent to the shop by mistake.

Councillor Craig ab Iago, from Gwynedd council, urged shoppers to boycott the store. However, some criticised the decision on social media, claiming it was ‘ridiculous’ to think anyone would be offended by the display.

England fan Sally Peacock said: ‘I have lived in Wales for 62 years. I hope English stores boycott Welsh merchandise.’

James Masters added: ‘Wales aren’t even in the World Cup. A clear example of anti-English racism and bigotry.’
