The honey that’s more effective than antibiotics
A HONEY has been found to be more effective than a standard antibiotic.
SurgihoneyRO is a medical-grade honey that has been engineered to release hydrogen peroxide — as the chemical breaks down, molecules known as free radicals form, which kill bacteria.
Scientists at the University of Southampton tested the honey on the bacteria non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae, which is associated with conditions including cystic fibrosis. It was more effective than co-amoxiclav, the antibiotic used for these infections, reports the Journal of Clinical Pathology. More studies are now planned.
