Some people have beauty that will last for ever They have style, they have grace that will leave them never But for others it’s a very different karma — Because it’s not much fun if you are born a banana! Your firm, curved body with a smooth, golden skin Cannot foresee the changes going on within, You lie there on the worktop with your future uncertain; How will it all play out, before the final curtain? Will you be peeled and devoured whole? Or be chopped into pieces in a cereal bowl? Or as your body softens and becomes more tender, Will you end up as a smoothie in somebody’s blender? And after just a few days your fate could be sealed If, by then, you haven’t been peeled. Soft, black decay will rapidly be spreading Then, sadly, for the food bin you could soon be heading! So before our earthly ties we sever Let’s remember things of beauty are joys for ever. Let’s be tolerant of life and a world full of drama. Growing older can be fun . . . unless you’re a banana!
