Not so smart
MY ELECTRICITY and broadband contract with First Utility is coming to an end, so I inquired about what deals are available.
It transpires that the most advantageous offers come with the proviso that a smart meter must be installed within six months of signing up, or you face being transferred to a more expensive package. I would call that applying undue pressure. JAMES WOOLLEY,
Halifax, W. Yorks. FIVE years ago, I was given a free electricity monitor when I switched to npower. It does everything a smart meter does except transmit information to the energy supplier.
If the Government really wanted you to see how much electricity you were using and adjust your habits accordingly, they could have supplied everyone with one of these.
Smart meters are purely for the supplier’s benefit and will result in higher bills when firms start to charge more during peak times. JULIAN YOUNG, Sidcup, Kent.
