MANAGERS ON THE MOVE
WEST HAM hope to present Manuel Pellegrini as their manager this week after agreeing a three-year deal worth a staggering £7m a season. Ruben Cousillas, who was Pellegrini’s No 2 at Hebei China Fortune, is expected to join the 64-year-old Chilean (below), as is goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero. Pellegrini is also said to have requested that two members of his former medical staff join him, and suggested to Hammers co-chairman David Sullivan that he appoint Malaga’s Mario Husillos as head of recruitment.
STOKE expect to appoint Gary Rowett after opening talks with Derby over compensation. Rowett was Stoke’s No 1 target to replace Mark Hughes in January, but the 44-year-old stayed at Pride Park and signed an improved deal. Now the Rams face financial cutbacks and he fancies going to a club with £40m in parachute payments.
CHRIS COLEMAN could be asked to make a shock return to Sunderland — just three weeks after he was sacked. Stewart Donald completed his £40m takeover from Ellis Short yesterday and revealed Coleman is one of the managers he is considering. Others in the frame include Leicester coach Michael Appleton, St Mirren boss Jack Ross and Bolton’s Phil Parkinson.
STEVE McCLAREN insists he has no fears about taking charge at Queens Park Rangers, despite their £40m fine for breaching Financial Fair Play rules. The former England boss, who has signed a two-year contract, said: ‘This is a perfect opportunity. I have proved I can achieve things.’
DARREN MOORE hopes his appointment as West Brom head coach will be an inspiration to all young, homegrown managers and not just those from ethnic minority backgrounds. Moore, 44: ‘Am I a role model? I’ll let you look at that. Me sitting here should be an inspiration to all young British coaches.’
