Goodwood will step up security to stop violence

Goodwood plan tighter security measures after the review which followed a violent mass brawl at its May 5 meeting.

Sussex Police will now be present at every fixture and all securityre­sponse teams at the track will wear high-visibility clothing.

The use of sniffer dogs will be increased at every meeting along with random bag searches and any racegoer found in possession of drugs will be removed from the track.

There will also be measures to curb alcohol intake while the compositio­n of the rapid-response teams has been changed. Goodwood race for the first time since the outbreak of violence when they stage a three-day meeting starting tomorrow.

Alex Eade, general manager for Goodwood, said: ‘Sussex Police have agreed to have a presence at our future fixtures and we continue to work with them on deploying other methods of deterring anti- social behaviour and drug use. we are also still helping them with enquiries following the incident on May 5.’

Meanwhile, trainer John Gosden says dante Stakes winner and second favourite Roaring Lion will run in the Investec derby at Epsom a week on Saturday.
