ARSENAL expect to finalise the deal to bring Unai Emery to the Emirates Stadium in the next 48 hours, but the Spaniard appeared to jump the gun last night when he was quoted on his own official website saying: ‘Proud to be part of the Arsenal family.’ The Spaniard, 46, has been in London for talks with Arsenal’s hierarchy, who were hugely impressed with his plans. The message, under the club crest and bearing Emery’s signature, was later taken down. Mikel Arteta is believed to have hesitated over the job because of decision-making about transfers, but Emery had no such misgivings. He was happy with the £5million-ayear deal which will keep him at Arsenal for three years. Arteta will now resume his role as the right-hand man of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, who are set to offer him a two-year contract extension. Meanwhile, Arsenal have stepped up their pursuit of Nice’s Jean-Michael Seri.
