LET’S BE BRAVE

ENGLAND’S NEW YOUNG CAPTAIN KANE ISSUES WORLD CUP WAR CRY

- By SAMI MOKBEL

HARRY KAne told england’s young lions to be brave in their pursuit of World Cup glory after he was named captain yesterday.

Kane, 24, pipped Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson to the armband and one of the Tottenham striker’s first acts was to issue an inspirational rallying cry, claiming england can do the impossible in Russia next month.

‘We have to be brave, whether we go out at the group stage or the semi-final, it’s the same,’ said Kane.

‘We discuss it as players and say we shouldn’t have any fear. I believe we can win it. Anyone can. I can’t say we’re not going to win it, because we could.

‘I want to win everything I do. It’s my mindset. So do the players. That’s what we’re going to try and do. There are

some really good teams at the World Cup, but those dreams of lifting it are worth fighting for. ‘We’re going to fight and give everything we’ve got. It’s impossible not to think about it, or to dream about it. It’s the World Cup, the biggest competition in the world.’ Despite his clean-cut persona, Kane is adamant he won’t be afraid to crack the whip among the squad this summer. Kane added: ‘There are going to be difficult moments at the World Cup, times when we are 1-0 down or trying to hold on to a lead against a good side. ‘It’s down to me when it comes to the group: if you feel someone needs a push, or a lift, you have to be that person. You cannot be afraid to talk or shout at each other to help people reach the best they can be. I think it comes to me naturally. I’ve been brought up that way. ‘There’s no excuse not to do that. If I see someone not doing that, I’ll give them a push. This is the standard we set.’
