HR manager’s gift bag on eBay … for £21k!

- By Royal Correspondent

ONE of the well-wishers invited to enjoy Saturday’s royal wedding from inside the grounds of Windsor Castle was offered £21,000 for her free gift bag after putting it on eBay.

Claire Oliver, 31, was one of 1,200 members of the public given a ‘golden ticket’ to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s big day.

The guests, who were mostly chosen for their devotion to good causes and community work, were each given a free commemorative bag.

The goody bags, inscribed with the initials of the happy couple, contained a souvenir order of service, a commemorative chocolate coin, Windsor Castle water, a tin of shortbread and a voucher for 20 per cent off in the castle shop.

But within hours of the service Miss Oliver, who works in HR, had put hers up for sale on eBay.

The bids reached £21,400, but Miss Oliver said last night: ‘It is correct I listed my bag on eBay. However, I subsequently took down the listing. The bag has not been sold.’

On the day of the wedding she tweeted: ‘I got to watch the royal wedding right outside Windsor Castle in this amazing setting. Such an amazing day. # Goldenticket #royalconnections.’

She was among dozens of ticket holders appearing to try to make money from their wedding gift bags.

One has attracted online bids of £30,000 – although again it is not certain if these bids were genuine – while others have attracted bids from the high hundreds to as much as £2,000.

One seller wrote: ‘Buy a piece of history and memorabilia to celebrate momentous special day for Britain’s [sic] and the royal family.’ Kensington Palace declined to comment.
