How Sajid was a child vigilante

-

THE Home Secretary and his police chief brother were in a child vigilante gang together.

Sajid Javid told officers that Bas, who is a chief superintendent with West Midlands Police, formed a gang of two in a rough area of Bristol. ‘I was ten, he was eight,’ he said. ‘Our gang was called the Crime Stoppers. Our mission: find crime and stop it. Our equipment: two knackered old bikes and two cheap old walkie-talkies.

‘Years later, that brother is still a crimebuster, only this time for real. I know the tricky situations he’s been in. I’ve seen the impact the job has on family life.’

He said Bas had been taken to hospital several times after being assaulted, once missing Christmas when his jaw was dislocated. On another occasion he saw a teenager approach Bas’s squad car and yell out ‘You Paki bastard’.

‘It really hit me just how hard and horrible it can be being a police officer,’ he added.
