Parents of little girl Blu ordered to rename her

-

THE parents of a baby girl called Blu have been ordered to rename her by Italian judges.

Blu, who is 18 months old, already has a birth certificate and a passport in her name, which is the Italian spelling of the colour.

But judges have threatened to impose a new name if her parents do not change it – because of a law saying names must reflect gender.

The parents, Luca and Vittoria, must now attend a legal hearing in Milan. Their tribunal summons read: ‘The birth certificate must be corrected, inserting another more distinctly female name that the parents may supply to the judges.’

They plan to fight the order as several other Italian girls are also called Blu or are named after other colours – and notably, Beyonce and Jay-Z’s eldest daughter is called Blue Ivy.

Luca said: ‘By now our daughter knows her name is Blu and it is written everywhere.’
