Flip side of finding my lucky coin . . .

-

It was only by chance I just happened to glance And noticed a coin on the floor, There was no one around So I picked up the pound And walked to the neighbourhood store. I know what I’ll do; So I joined a short queue And entered a Lottery game. I invested this find With the hope in my mind I’d be able to make a big claim. So late in the day With my lucky-pound play I checked on the Thunderball draw. Well, to my surprise I’d won the first prize — With this cash I won’t work any more. The very next day With a cheque on its way I felt like a cat with some cream, But with the sun shining bright And my head feeling light I slowly came out of a dream. I awoke from my sleep — The sorrow was deep, But one thing I don’t understand. I just can’t explain The joy and the pain; That coin was still in my hand. Paul Kmiolek, Hednesford, Staffs.
