THE STORY BEHIND ROYAL TEA CADDY

- JENNY COAD

THAT’S A POSH TEA TIN: Made in the mid-18th century from mahogany, rosewood, tulipwood, kingwood, silver and silvered copper, it is positively regal.

HOW SO? This belonged to Queen Mary, given or bequeathed by Lord Farquhar in 1923.

THE QUEEN MARY WHOSE TIARA WAS WORN BY MEGHAN LAST WEEKEND? The very same. WHERE IS IT NO W? It’s part of the Royal Collection at Frogmore House, Windsor. WHERE THE NEWYLWEDS PARTIED THE NIGHT AWAY? Correct. Though they probably weren’t drinking tea. CAN I SEE IT? You can. Frogmore House is open to pre-booked groups during August and the tea caddy lives in Queen Mary’s Flower Room.
