Cat mascot is new MD of Sunderland!

- CRAIG HOPE

SUNDERLAND owner Stewart Donald has appointed Jack Ross as manager — and brought back Samson the Cat as managing director. Tony Davison used to be the club mascot before embarking on a commercial career in football, most recently for Tottenham, and now the lifelong Sunderland fan is back to join an executive team with Donald and director Charlie Methven. Ross has been installed as boss after taking St Mirren into the Scottish Premiership, signing a two-year contract. He will be joined by assistant James Fowler. Ross, 41, said: ‘This is a fantastic opportunity to take charge of an incredible football club. If you look at the history, the facilities and, most important of all, the fan base, you can see what this club can be. ‘To be part of the team to help realise that potential is something that fills me with excitement. ‘There’s a lot of work to be done in re-shaping the squad to ensure that we hit the ground running in League One, and I can’t wait to get started.’
