New £5m home for Jacob and his mini Mogg, 11

-

THERE’S no mistaking the youngster alongside Jacob Rees-Mogg. In a smart suit, tie and glasses, 11-year-old Peter is clearly his father’s son.

The schoolboy accompanied the MP yesterday as he set about rubbishing claims that he had bought a £5million home yards from Westminster in order to position himself as the next Tory leader.

It was claimed the Brexiteer had invested in the property, which is even closer to the Commons than Downing Street, in a signal of his ambitions.

But he yesterday told ITV News: ‘The Cowley Street thing is absolute nonsense. I am a father of six children and I have moved from Mayfair to Cowley Street because Cowley Street is cheaper and I couldn’t afford a bigger property in Mayfair. It could not be simpler.’ The home became vacant after pro-Brexit former Tory deputy chairman Lord Ashcroft, who had been renting the building to house his varied political and business operations, moved out.

The 18th century building is closer to Parliament than No 10, lying just 390 yards from the Commons. It is also a mere 500 yards from Tory campaign HQ.
