THIS IS WHAT 66 LOOKS LIKE
GILLIAN WHEELER is a florist. She lives in london with husband alan. They have two children, Fleur, 35 and Ross, 40, and five grandchildren.
FLOWER THERAPY
WE are as young as what we do. I changed career at 56, from teaching, to set up a flower arranging academy with my daughter, so I’m always surrounded by people of all ages. Flowers have always made me feel good and it’s therapeutic to work with your hands. I’m lucky to have made my passion my work: I won’t be retiring any time soon!
MATURE SKIN MAKE-UP
AS I’VE got older, I’ve found that my skin is much drier — and I need an extra moisture boost. A friend recommended the Look Fabulous Forever make-up range, as it’s designed specifically for mature skin. I’m obsessed with their Smooth Like Silk Face Prime (£22, look fabulous forever.
com) a silky gel you can use under foundation to fill in fine lines and stop make-up looking too caked.
FAMILY TENNIS FUN
I’VE been playing tennis with my family for more than 45 years. It’s an amazing full body workout and I’m always on a high afterwards. Plus, it’s much more sociable than the gym. When I play with my children they push me to work harder! It’s a great way to spent quality time with them.
ONE LAYER HAIR
EVER since I started going grey in my 40s, I’ve been getting a blonde tint — but it’s still quite a natural shade. To pull it off, I get a short, sharp onelayer cut, every two months, at the Trevor Sorbie salon in Covent Garden (£120, trevorsorbie.com). It’s expensive, but worth it. I’ve now had the same stylist for a decade and they know layers don’t suit me.
ECCENTRIC FASHION
MY CLOTHES keep me young: I’ve always had fun with fashion and see no reason to change this now I’m in my 60s. I love bright, clashing colours — purples, pinks and oranges. One of my favourite outfits is a long black and gold Zara kimono, with a red lining, paired with fitted turquoise trousers and a chunky silver chain necklace. academyofflowers.com
